BoardSource Building Effective Nonprofit Boards
Frederick T. Miller, President, Chatham Group, Inc.
We are in the midst of the aftershocks of the economic crisis that hit the world in the fall of 2008. Everyone and every organization have been affected – challenging fundamental premises, tactics, strategy, and adaptive capacities. For some, inevitably the focus must be on the survival of the critical community benefit provided, for others survival and more long-term uncertainties and questions are entwined.
What do disruptive events such as the economic meltdown mean for the work of the board and for board and management together? What are the implications of such disruptions — when in midstream our normal touchstones, rules, revenues, and benchmarks change — for the fiduciary, strategic, and generative modes of governance?
Using the frame of disruption, consultant Fred Miller will share how some organizations are engaged in adaptive leadership and create a platform for participants to explore the implications for their leadership.
