BoardSource Building Effective Nonprofit Boards
Robert P. Fry, Jr., Makarios LLC
When it comes to overseeing an organization's investments, the ultimate responsibility falls squarely on the board. But if the truth be told, many trustees and directors would rather take a hands off approach and "just let the professionals" manage the money. Unfortunately, "the professionals" just lost $30 trillion in the global stock markets in 2008. So perhaps a different approach is in order!
In this presentation, we will examine the investment world and the choices we face along with an overall process that will allow a board to manage risks while striving to achieve its investment goals. Our goal is to equip the normal men and women who serve on boards to take an active hand in supervising their organizations’ investments by creating, implementing, and overseeing appropriate investment policies.
